Granite Countertops
Granite is the earth's second hardest mineral, formed from volcanic magma, making it one of the most durable building products. It has beautiful, natural color variations and a uniqueness that is created with each piece. Granite is typically a speckled stone, although it can have different veining and texture creating added beauty. As a result of the hardness and natural beauty, granite is one of the most popular countertop materials on the market.
Granite Uses Include: kitchen countertops, bathroom vanity tops, floors, tables and other heavily used surfaces.
Granite Benefits
The hardness of the minerals comprising most granite surpasses that of the utensils that are used on them, resulting in excellent scratch resistance.
Heat Resistance: Granite is typically heat resistant up to temperatures of 250 degrees Celsius or 480 degrees Fahrenheit, although direct application of localized heat sources is discouraged, since strong thermal gradients within the stone can initiate cracking.
Bacteria Resistance: Studies of bacteria retention on common countertops surfaces have proven granite to be superior to the majority of surfaces employed for that purpose (Ref: MIA Technical Bulletins).
Stain Resistance: Absorption rates of stones in this group range from 0.05% to 0.40%, indicating that the available pore volume capable of harboring a staining agent is very slight. Using an impregnating sealer can be used to further reduce the stain resistance of granite.
At Tile Outlet, we specialize in prefabricated granite slabs but we can also work with raw granite slabs. "Prefabricated" simply means that the granite slab has been cut and polished to meet industry standard dimensions.
Granite Countertop Sizing
Our prefabricated slabs are 2cm thick and come finished with a 4cm full bullnose edge on two sides. The back edge (or wall edge) is unfinished. This edge is usually covered with our standard 6" backsplash.
Prefabricated slabs minimize costly edge fabrication that is necessary with raw granite slabs.
Standard countertop sizes are 25.5 inches deep with lengths of 96 inches, 108 inches, and 120 inches.
Island countertops are available in 36 inch, 39 inch, and 52 inch deep sections. Depending on the color of the granite, they range in length from 96 to 120 inches.
Our goal is to help make your granite countertops beautiful, stylish and affordable.
